I bought this at $545, so the review takes that into account. It's a decent computer. I've had it for around six months now. The only problem is that lately some programs freeze up, along other general performance issues, but that could be due to malware that my free security program hasn't detected. It's definitely worth the price. I've got a MacBook Pro, which is a great computer, but it was 3x the price. I'll post another after about a year.

So maybe about 3 months ago the computer was running pretty slowly. Eventually, I got sick of it and installed Ubuntu. I did have to work for a while to solve a suspend/resume problem(it would go to hibernate mode when i shut the screen and i'd have to boot it back up again as if i'd shut it down), but there's a help forum on it and it's not too hard to fix(just have to update the BIOS). It runs super well now though and I'm really happy with the computer. Windows just really bogged it down.

I bought this Lenovo ThinkPad E540 as temporary replacement for another laptop. its really good laptop but I won't lie that this laptop has it own problems.
Pros - great screen - love the keyboard - decent performance w/o upgrades - great battery life
cons - touchpad "simple solution just get wireless mouse" - slightly heavy laptop "this might be my own personal issue
This laptop in stock config is fine, you live with the stock performance with much issues but I upgrade form HHD to SSD and 4 gb ram to 8 gb ram. Personally I found it necessary for me to upgrade the laptop. The performance skyrocketed with these upgraded. The keyboard is great for me because its responsive while typing and it feels great while typing for someone who type a lot of paper and search a lot in this E540. The screen is more of personal type issue, I really dislike glossy screen but E540 has Matted screen and I love it so far, I can see everything clearly without reflections of my surrounding. The battery life is okay for me because I can use this laptop 3 to 31/2 hour which is great for I can do.
My issue with the E540 The touchpad is annoying for me because I couldn't simplest way to disable it. also you have to hard press to get the response which isn't major issue because thumb can do great job pressing hard in the touchpad. The laptop kinda heavy for my liking but its trade off for the performance i am getting so kinda of complaining for me.
extra notes for gaming its fine example (league of legend and World of Tank)
Been using Lenovo ThinkPad Edge laptops in our business for several years now and have no complaints about any of them. They have held up well not just in our sales department, but also in our service department where they are exposed to dust, exhaust, grease, oil, and all manner of other non-computer-friendly substances. Overall, a quality laptop. The Lenovo software that comes preinstalled may qualify as bloatware but is easily removed if you're not interested in it.
This laptop was a HUGE disappointment compared to my old ThinkPad T61. When my T61 died after nearly a decade of faithful service, there was no question that I would get another ThinkPad. Despite knowing that the new ThinkPads are manufactured by Lenovo (and no longer by IBM) in China, I really love the keyboard on the ThinkPad, particularly the pointer device between the G and H keys. The pointer has remained on Lenovo's version of the ThinkPad, but now the equivalent of the left, right, and scroll buttons have been integrated into the touch-pad right below the space bar on the keyboard. This has proven EXTREMELY difficult to utilize! On the T61, the left, right, and scroll buttons were separate, making for much easier usage. On this one, I find myself highlighting text when I want to scroll. Also, your thumb must be ALL THE WAY at the edge of the buttons in order to engage with the red pointer. Where my typing and pointing on my T61 was effortless, doing so on this new computer is cumbersome. I would have been better off getting a Dell; save myself at least $200. In terms of build quality, the new Lenovo ThinkPad feels about the same as a Dell. Sadly, I will have to find another laptop manufacturer when the time comes to replace this computer.

This is a fine computer, but the battery life and weight are not as described. The computer weighs about 5 pounds, like most similar computers. and the battery only lasts 4 hours, not the 6.2 advertised. Think twice if you are considering this computer based on either battery life or weight.Plan on only having as much time to work on battery as you spend charging the computer before hand.
The computer has a great keyboard and good performance, but poor display, and an annoying mouse.

It`s a good laptop. I bought it only to use visual C++ here. It runs not that fast like my mac, but it`s not too bad. But I really don`t like the FLAT touch pad rather than the original two separate left and right buttons. The keyboard is a little bit noisy when typing. Anyway, it is a good laptop in this price and good for the daily use.

I needed a solid business-grade laptop and that's exactly what I got. I'm running Linux Mint instead of Windows so I think I avoided the annoying touchpad gesture problems that everyone else was warning against - at any rate the touchpad works fine for me.
I've been using it for a few weeks now and haven't noticed any significant problems or difficulties. All in all I'm very happy with the purchase!
after 1 year the computer get a problem to start and reboot itself. no one have solution for it. all forums and specialist say the same... bad investment! think before buy it.
