Before purchasing, I wish I had read the other reviews warning of this product.I purchased it and 2 months later it wouldn't recognize any of the components - no wireless, no pointing device.I got on the phone with Dell technical support for over 1 1/2 hours. They said the hard drive failed and would send out a technician with a new hard drive to install. Two days later that happened. After installing the hard drive, the technician said to wait for the computer to reboot and install the programs.24 hours later, it said it was still installing the programs on the screen. Called Dell again and was on the phone again for another hour with them having me run all kinds of diagnostic tests.Clearly they didn't know what the problem was and said they would be sending me something in the mail to install. They ended up sending CD's.My computer does not have a CD!!They should have checked the computer configuration to determine if I had a CD or not. That wasted another 3 days. Got on the phone AGAIN with technical support - for over 1 1/2 hours.Still more testing, more questions. They said they would be sending out something else to me.Anticipating it would take another 2 days to receive, I asked to be transferred to their supervisor.Another 35 minutes and she couldn't do anything.I asked for a replacement and she said she couldn't authorize it. I said I didn't want to do any more testing, diagnosing, installation of things.... I need the issue resolved and nobody can tell me what is wrong. She said she would send this to an escalation team who would get back to me in up to 48 hours.
Seriously - I just can't believe the computer failed after 2 months and I can't get the thing fixed. It sounds like a lot of other people had the same problem so just be aware when purchasing this product.I have no idea if it is another hardware piece like the motherboard or something else.I'll let you know if I find out anything else.
This is a terrific little laptop. Note that it does NOT include a CD/DVD drive but that's because if the small form factor. I simply went down to my local tech shop and bought an external DVD-R drive. To be honest I bought this unit after working for a couple months with a Samsung Chromebook. I love the Chromebooks and I love the idea of cloud computing, but there were a handful of tasks that I needed to have a full-fledged Windows PC to complete. My original thought was to blow off Windows 8 as soon as this laptop arrived and to load Windows 7. But it came at the same time as the Windows 8.1 update so I decided to give it a try. Since that time I have found a way to COMPLETELY eliminate the Windows Metro interface from ever coming up, and for all intents and purposes this OS now works almost identical to Win7. The Inspiron 5323 is a decent little laptop and I love the size. Sure it could be a bit snappier, but I didn't get it for heavy lifting...just basic business applications and some photo, audio and video editing. I've owned it for about 3 weeks now and everything seems to be working great. If I had one complaint it would be the incredibly frustrating covers on the side ports. I connect USB devices regularly and you need three hands to basically plug something in. (I wasn't made with three hands...thus my frustration.) My goal for this unit is to eventually buy a flash memory hard drive and probably upgrade the RAM to 8 GBs.
Update on August 2014 (9 months later): Still using this laptop and still enjoying it. I was able to augment the hard drive with a second 250GB solid-state unit which I switched to my C drive and from which I run Windows. And I DID end up blowing off Windows 8 and loading Windows 7 and am SO glad I did. When I wrote the original review I thought I get used to Windows 8 but now I'm even more determined that I will NEVER own a Windows 8 machine. But Windows 7 drivers were in abundance for this machine and I had no trouble switching over at all. Still glad I bought it and would do so again.
Seriously. Not a month of use, and the motherboard is dead. It can't identify a boot device. Been on chat with a (friendly, thank goodness) Dell rep who is sending a tech to replace the motherboard. I hope this is a one-time problem. My previous Dells have fared far better...
UPDATE: A couple of months have passed since the comment above and I'm less frustrated with this computer. Dell actually did the right thing and sent a tech to look at and fix the laptop. He replaced the motherboard and everything is working okay now. The tech met me at work and fixed the computer before the end of my day, so it was very convenient. Well done Dell, I'm pleasantly surprised. Now I just hope the computer keeps working (it's great when it does...)
I was worried at first because I read some bad reviews about this machine but so far, the laptop has worked just fine. I only had one issue with the operating system (Windows 8) but since the upgrade to 8.1 it has worked flawlessly. One thing that bothers me is the fact the all ports a hidden by this plastic lids that I don't think are going to last many years. Besides, it makes connecting usb equipment a pain in the neck since one has to hold the lids with one hand while inserting the connector with the other. This usually means one has to put the laptop on its side to make the process less cumbersome. The screen doesn't give very accurate colors and before the windows upgrade it would flick a bit when the brightness was lower. It doesn't happen anymore.Apart from that is an excellent machine. It's fast and starts up really quick.
With a 15.6" display (full HD optional), 2GB performance graphics and 3rd Gen Intel Core processors, the Inspiron 15R Special Edition is built to give you the best in entertainment.

I'm actually writing this review on this very same laptop. It works great and hasn't given me any serious malfunctions or hardware issues. I changed out the 8gig for 16 which does seem to be helping quite a lot! The back-lit keyboard is now something I look for with most computers I look at. The case it comes in is seemingly indestructible and the components inside are amazingly tough. I've honestly dropped it a few times like most laptop users and the 5ft drop it encountered it only got a piece of the interchangeable case was chipped. No screen damage or anything!I have had it overheat due to me using it on my lap or bed constantly but I can just re-start it instantly and have no issues! The BIOS is easy to navigate too and is very user friendly I honestly just say it's great for the price, I'm just wishing I got a desktop with it. The Processor does seem a bit clunky honestly and does freeze and lag pretty hard under quite some stress. I'm a gamer so I expect this I'm just bummed out that you cant modify it too much without being a computer wiz and that why I'm giving it 4 starts instead of 5, the ram is easy to upgrade and I'm sure the HDD would be too. But the Motherboard is soldered and everything else seems like you would have to go to an extensive amount of money and work to modify it to get it somewhat up to par with a desktop that costs maybe about the same if not cheaper?
P.S. For all those gamers out there it plays Fallout 3 just fine and battlefield just fine as well. I play Darksouls and GTA V constantlywithout too many problems besides it overheating once in awhile. HOWEVER it absolutely refuses to play newer games like Fallout 4 even on bare minimum settings which is a shame because you just cant upgrade the processor or the graphics card easily.

The laptop is well build and easy to unpack and get started. The keys light up nicely and the screen is bright and contrast is good. The ports are in good locations around the sides of the laptop. Windows 8 is a disappointment. The computer isn't a touch screen so Microsoft shouldn't force touchscreen enabled apps on you. Any installed app doesn't provide the functionality the Windows version provides you. I'm left with a feeling like I'm operation my Phone on a computer, that's not why I got a computer. I need it to be better and quicker than my phone. We've used the computer now for a year and all of the issues we've had with it originate from the Software. Currently I need to take it into a Windows shop. Windows 8 isn't able to update to 8.1 because it isn't able to connect to the Windows Servers.
This is an excellent Machine, very fast, with Turbo Booster 2.0 auto manage processor speed. I can run multiple tasks without delays excecuting them. There is a model very similar to this one and almost 200.00 $USD ($736.00)cheaper, for less video and plastic back plate instead of aluminium, and keyboard backlit but more Hard Disk Drive, and 3 pounds less in weight which is very good if you carry your laptop with you. At first I thought I would have bought that one if was listed but now, after using this one I am very happy about this purchase. No regret so far only: 1-This is advertised as 2.5 GHz, but base processor speed is 2.2GHz and I have seen mine at 2.9GHz with Turbo Booster Monitor. 2-Little heavy, 9 pounds (not really a problem). 3-Touch pad is very sensible but you can be solved with a mouse or some adjusting (not an issue). 4-I did not like, I saw this machine in dell.com website at a higher Price, and came here in blackfriday weekend, I though I bought it in a special Price, but now is lower. There was a psicological trick used to buy it in a hurry and two weeks later was a little cheaper. Not enough for a return but, I feel blackfriday was a trick.
Dell is a very good Brand and the best in Warranty service in my country, that was a very important point in my purchase. This computer moves very fast, and multitask without delay.

First time buying a laptop and It's been great since I got it a month ago! While a month isn't long it has preformed wonderfully so far.The screen is bigger than I thought but not so big that it's too much to carry.
pros: -Screen and resolution -Fan (only gets warm after hours of gaming, at least 3 hours) -mouse pad very responsive -Performance fast and as expected -4 USB slots -NO UNEXPECTED SUPRISES (no shockers you wish you knew beforehand, so relieving)
cons: -I wish there was a keypad.I knew there wasn't one beforehand but It looks like if they moved the keyboard a little and maybe put a keypad below it would fit. There is room and that would be a huge plus. -CD drive is on the side right in a place were every time I grab the laptop on the side I'm afraid I might have messed up the cd drive a little.maybe if they moved it a little or replaced it with a insert drive instead of one that pops out, that would solve it. -Keypad feels a little fragile, but maybe I type hard. Not a big thing and I hope it's normal.
Windows 8 is a little confusing and different at first, but once you get to know it and how to navigate the quick key it's actually really nice.I wish though that they had more of a tutorial at the beginning than it did.It wasn't much. And I know you can download more help in their apps, you have to stumble your way there.Besides that though, great. Now they just need more apps.
Overall this a fantastic laptop that is worth the price and just what you expect.I will update this as time goes on.

A relative bought this for their daughter in college. They asked me to help them change some settings and play around with it since I'm an IT professional. Honestly, it will work for basic surfing, email, office products, and a few other applications. But, as soon as you open a few, it starts to bog down. Also, windows 8.1 is a piece of crap in my opinion. It was riddled with issues doing auto updates. I fixed it, but a computer should not be like that right off the bat. The casing is ok. Feels a lil cheap. The keyboard is also not as sensitive as I'd like it. For the price of 300 or less, I think it is ok. But, I'd rather recommend you continue to save money and invest on an i3 or better AMD processor for $20-$100 more.
bought this laptop as a replacement, wouldn't boot up.I got a series of beeps and a screen saying the battery was defective.Bought a new battery here for 90 bucks and installed it and the machine still wouldn't boot.Ran diagnostics and found that it also needed a CMOS battery for the mother board.Of course the laptop is 2 years old and doesn't have a warranty from Dell, I can purchase an extended warranty for 200 dollars but is it really worth it for a 270 dollar computer?I could have spent the same amount of money at Best Buy for a working out of the box computer.I have it up and running and my GF loves it so that's the saving grace about this whole ordeal. The buyer should be made aware that there might be issues with discontinued stock or at least the seller should power the units up before selling them and adjust the pricing according to the issues with the units.
Started having a problem right after the initial setup. There is a warning that reads "Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature."Thought it might be overheating but after shutting it off for over an hour I'm still getting the message.

I owned this computer for a year and had nothing but problems with it from about a month in. The computer would constantly shut itself down in the middle of me doing something with no warning. I often had problems with the computer throwing error messages that couldn't be explained and restarting on it's own. This computer is absolutely horrible and the fact that I needed to buy a new computer after less than a year of owning this one because I couldn't take the headaches anymore is a real pain. Stay away. Complete junk.
I needed a windows 8, sadly the only one I could get at the time was a Dell, which has never been a good PC. It's slow to start, the touch pad is really touchy and I mean that in the extreme negative. There was a years back I repaired computers, I loved Dell then because everyone that had one needed repairs... a real money maker for me. Well, I have a very limited use for this Dell, so little in fact that it might actually hold up. But if you are looking to use it as a real PC, forget about it.
Dell... very disappointed. After a string of good systems from Dell, this one was a total bust!I am fairly "computer savvy", but this one even frustrated me.Having it for about 48 house, I never did really have any luck without it "hanging" or "crashing".How did this system pass QC?? Or has Dell abandoned quality for volume sales & more profit?"Back in the day" folks paid a little more for a Dell because they were well vetted before they were marketed or shipped. Are those days over Dell?
I really didn't think I needed much of a laptop for what I use it for, but web pages are incredibly slow to load, and the graphics from something simple like streaming is impossible. The picture is fuzzy and jolts. I put it next to the laptop I replaced with this one and the picture is crystal clear, so it's not my internet connection. I can't even use google hangouts. If you want ANY kind of video quality, skip this and get an HP. I wish I had. This is just terrible.
Ever since the first time I turned this laptop on, whenever it's being booted up or shut down it will start beeping repeatedly and EXPLOSIVELY loudly for anywhere from two to ten minutes. WHY?HOW DO I TURN THIS OFF?
Aside from that I'm enjoying my laptop a lot. It freezes up for short periods of time on occasion if I leave it on for too long, but that's mostly my fault and it never lasts long and works perfectly besides that. But the infernal screeching is driving me up the wall. I live in an apartment complex and it's massively inappropriate to house anything making this much noise on a regular basis and not using my computer isn't really an option for me. Has anyone else had this problem? Can someone tell me how to fix it?

In searching for a good 'Back to School' laptop, my criteria was that it needed to be durable, functional & reasonable. I wanted a laptop that will last a while - not some junk that will break in 2 years. Because of this, I wanted a reputable brand. I've always had good experiences with Dell, so I decided to give it a shot. This Dell 15(3521) i15RV-6143BLK really ticked all of the boxes for me.
*It has the Intel Pentium Processor, which I've always preferred over an AMD. *It has a decent amount of Memory with 4 Gigs - then 500GB Storage on the hard drive. *This laptop has a DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive) - which was a nice bonus. *It has a generous sized 15.6" screen - which is in HD (780p). I really don't need 1080p on a screen this size. *All of the images are crisp and the colors are vibrant & bright. Great picture quality. *It's very cool - having such a large screen - with Touch capabilities. *The screen itself is very responsive to the touch of a fingertip & it's neat to do things 'sans mouse pad'. *So far, the battery life on this laptop is very good. On a full charge, it goes for several hours - no problem. *It's very slim & sleek. Light weight, too. The top has a textured design, which gives it a unique & classy look. *There's an "8 in 1" Media Card Reader, which allows you to load photos or any data from older (or newer style) memory cards. *It has Bluetooth capabilities and a decent audio system built in. (Waves Maxx Audio 4.0) *Of course, there's a built in webcam at the top of the screen. *There are Four USB 3.0 Ports - Three on the left side and one on the right. *There's also an Ethernet Port, an HDMI Port & a standard AUX port on the sides of the keyboard. *Even the keyboard itself makes me happy! It feels like quality. Typing is fluid & quiet. *It has a separate number pad to the right of the keyboard - which I prefer on a laptop. *The mouse pad is smooth - not textured, which for me is yet another little detail that puts this one over the top.
This comes with Windows 8 Pre-installed. Being this is my first experience with windows 8, I'm glad I paid a little more & got a "Touch Screen" - rather than a laptop with a traditional screen. It's really made my transition into Windows 8 more acceptable. Coming from Windows 7 and XP before that, it does take a little getting used to. That being said, this Dell Inspiron 15 has everything that I was looking for - and more. It's perfect for everyday computing and the touch screen makes it all the more attractive. It's so nice... I'm thinking of buying another one for my son... and keeping this one for myself!
I don't know if the problem is the laptop or Windows 8.However, together, both of them are terrible.First of all, Microsoft apparently thinks it made things easier by hiding everything, including my existing printers and settings. It took it upon itself to replace my printer with the one-note cloud "printer" which would not let me print anything. That's just one problem. Now, whether this is due to windows or the laptop, I don't know. What I do know is the combination is horrible. It takes forever to fully boot up.Half the time, it locks during startup and I have to manually turn it off.The touch pad is slow to respond and when it finally does, the cursor flies across the screen. When I plug in my passport drive, half the time, it is not recognized. The touch screen is pretty much a waste of time, as are Windows 8 "apps".This is not my first experience with Dell. The others were not very positive either.Maybe Microsoft will one day be more concerned with making a better operating system than it is will setting everything up to favor other Microsoft programs (how many times has it got in trouble for that?).In any case, I am through with Dell and I would definitely recommend NOT buying this laptop.
I ordered this laptop after a lot of back and forth between laptops. I had an Apple laptop that broke after 5 years but it was out of our budget to buy another mac. While 5 pounds seems light, it's actually pretty heavy and bulky for a laptop. The battery life is okay, I would say it lasts me about 6 hours on low/average use, about 4 hours on high balanced energy use. They updated the software to 8.1 which I like a lot more than the windows 8. The touch screen is a pretty cool feature, it gets a lot of "wows" when people see it. I don't do anything fancy on the computer, mainly browse the internet, write papers, download/watch movies and have taken some online courses. I find the computer to be pretty slow and the start time from powering it on/off/waking it up from sleep does take longer than I would want. If you're really on a budget and you want a big bulky laptop this is a good choice, but if you want something to carry around to classes I would look for something lighter/smaller.
Since I received this pc, in June, I have sent it back to Dell to have the battery and the plug replaced because it wouldn't charge. When it came back, it wouldn't connect to the internet, and I had to plug the computer directly into the router because it would not connect wirelessly. After phone calls, with Dell techs working on the problem, without success, they had a man come to the house to check out my system. He replaced a faulty wifi card, and it connects again.
I've also discovered that I hate Windows 8. I can't say that strongly enough. I haven't been able to store info onto a san disk, and I "lose" things, such as email, when I am in the middle of writing.
If I had known then, what I know now, I never would have purchased a pc with Windows 8. I have owned computers for, at least 20 years and have NEVER had the problems/disappointment I've encountered in the past 2 months.
Like the one drive tech so it has information stored from my iPhone.Works well but sometimes does unexpected things, like not being able to open google chrome.

Bought this laptop for my wife after reading hundreds of different reviews on different computers.Went with the biggest hard drive, fastest speed, touchscreen, Windows 8.We were new to Windows 8, but after watching a YouTube tutorial, we felt set to go.Now it's a non-issue (don't be afraid, MS isn't going to change back with Windows 9).Wife and kids love the touch screen feature, but honestly, I can't stand fingerprints, so I find I personally use the mousepad.Warning to gamers though, this is not a gaming laptop, only comes with an Intel 4400 card, which is nothing useable to support gaming.Internet based stuff works for the kids though.

Everything is as per my expectation.. It is really nice touch screen experience with this laptop.
Following features I liked most : 1. Configuration (i7 processor, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD) 2. Touch Screen 3. Sound and picture Quality 4. Keyboard (Keys are really smooth to work) 5. 15.6" screen to watch movies (Its better to be big) and last but not the least the DELL LAPTOP.
However it is little bit heavy ,so if u have to carry it every time , please check the weight first.
This is my first ever laptop that I've owned and overall I love the whole feel of it.I am using this more than my gaming PC just for the ease of use of it.I love the solid feel of the body of the laptop and the keyboard with the rounded edge keys that are nicely spaced apart really make a difference.I've done all my typing on this since I got it which is the main purpose I wanted it for.
The touch screen is very responsive and though I used it far more often at first than I do currently (due to always have to clear off the smudges) I still use it from time to time when I am feeling lazy or that it feels to be the better method of use.
Yeah the battery life is a bit on the short end of the stick but I don't plan on using it anywhere too far from a power source so it's no problem at all for me.
After playing around with it some I would say that the other recommendations for upgrading the RAM would definitely come in handy for those higher demand jobs. For general usage I would say you could skip it easily without any issues. So far I am now a fan of Dell's laptops at least!
Bought it used from Amazon in very good condition for $580. Crashed every few minutes. Tried to do a factory reset, but it even crashed during that. Checked reviews of Dell computers and found lots of complaints of the same issue. Disappointing because with these specs and around $750 new it looks good value. i could buy new, but after finding this is a common problem, I am worried that I may have to deal with this problem after the warranty ends.

Most recent update:Dell did come through, replaced the motherboard, and returned this laptop to me.Took about a week.Everything works AOK.The USB 3.0 technology is very fast.Yes, I spent far too much time on this, but I did end up with a fine, fast laptop.Upgraded to 4 stars.
Update:this unit sent back to Dell to replace motherboard. Two USB 3.0 ports did not work properly.Spent (more) hours with Dell to get to the point where they'd repair the unit.So I lose this new laptop for 2 weeks (7-12 days they tell me), and have spent hours with phone service on this. This may be my 5th or 6th Dell, and I've been pleased in the past.Still underwhelmed with this one. Will update my review again when I've got this unit back from Dell service.
Original review: I finally bought the i15RMT-1001sLV after comparing with others.Lots of value and lightweight. As recommended by other buyers, I upgraded the memory to 16GB (two 8GB cards), which noticeably speeds up this laptop. This unit works well.
Couple of gripes, though:when upgrading to Windows 8.1, which you have to do, the Bluetooth drivers failed and had to be found on Dell.com, downloaded and installed. The bigger surprise, though is that the wireless card does not handle 5GHz WiFi (802.11a).Everything else I see today seems to run at 5GHz, but this laptop series does not. While not a showstopper for many people, the new 5GHz standard is becoming common.
Dell service isn't what it used to be.It took me several hours on the phone and 5 different Dell people to figure these two issues out and get them resolved.I decided to upgrade the wireless card with Dell for $20.The memory upgrade cost over $100, but I knew that when I purchased.Hence 3 stars.I'm somewhat underwhelmed.
I purchased this for my wife because she has been taking over my old laptop and when I get it back all my settings are changed. I personally do not like touch screen computers but she works with them everyday at work so I made her happy with this model. She has problems with the home networking but other than that the computer functions fine, like I said 9 times out of ten when she has a problem with it. its just operator error.
This had the best specs for the dollars. I was looking for a solid computer for my son to be able to write his papers on and access the internet. He isn't into gaming (at least on this platform)so it was the best deal I could find for the use he was going to use it for.

At what I thought was first a Dell Inspiron with a 1tb hard drive actually turned out to be a 500 gig hard drive. But given the price and the sleek nature of the computer itself, I do adore it. In fact I don't regret anything about this laptop even in the slightest. I do wish Amazon would have kept their word though in following through with this kind of laptop for what they had me pay originally.

If you have never used Windows 8, you have a learning experience to go through.I have used Window operating systems since the early days of Microsoft. This is by far the harder system to learn. In my opinon the touchscreen is essential to a smooth transition to Windows 8 and this computer does a great job of providing that requirement. It loads fast and operated fast.I have had no problems with the computer in the 2 months I have owned it.I believe that once I learn the operating system completely, I will be completely satisfied. If an old dog over 70 yrs old can learn it - anyone can.
This is a beloved laptop. It was my first touchscreen (ha!).HOWEVER, two years after purchasing it, the Hard Drive just went capoot! Dead! Gone! No Boot!I took it to our (excellent) I.T. Department here at my law firm and he said there really is nothing that can be done, it just died.I looked into it with Dell, the warranty was expired, there is nothing to do but buy a new one. HA!I really hate to be giving a bad review but most people expect a laptop to last longer than two years.I guess it's no secret to most people that computer companies have engineered laptops to die every 2 years so they are compelled to purchase as new one.Cynical times we live in.
I am loving this new Dell laptop! The touchscreen and touchpad both are responsive and Windows 8 really shines with the touchscreen. I really like the finish...both outer and screen/keyboard. Pretty lightweight (much lighter than my Dell office laptop) and sleek when closed (not too hefty, not too thin but just right). The sound quality is just okay. You will want to get Bluetooth speaker(s). Otherwise, this is a great deal that's tough to beat!
This is our first Windows laptop as we were coming from a used MacBook. We are very happy with it's performance. The speed of the i3 processor is great and the touchscreen is very responsive.I was concerned that this was a refurbished unit... but I have not seen any issues with it.
Motherboard replacement was very easy because a drink was spilled on it!Bonus to Dell!
I have been without a computer for a few years now, so I decided to get this laptop. It's very very fast, audio is great, webcam is awesome, touch screen is very responsive. I don't have a single complaint. Best purchase I've made in a while. I haven't tried gaming or anything extreme but if you're looking for a computer/laptop to check e-mails, facebook, light gaming, watch movies, you-tube videos, do your work, and things like that, this is the one for you. :) *Very Satisfied*

So far so good. The screen gets terribly smudged and the case shows every finger print. I am constantly wiping it off. However as far as the machine goes I think it was a great buy for the price. I had a devil of a time installing my newly purchased Microsoft Office Professional. I had to pay to have someone install it. Still can't get outlook to work. But I'm told this is a Microsoft issue, not a Dell problem. Still getting used to windows 8. But again, that's not a Dell issue. So far this computer has done everything I've asked it to do with speed and efficiency. I am not a counter guru so I don't have any technical specs to share. But I do upload lots of pictures and I work a lot with word processing and spread sheets. The ram seems more than sufficient for my needs. I'd buy it again.
Having a little trouble figuring out Windows 8, but having the touch screen helps!Great laptop for the price.I would prefer the mouse not click so loud and wish the laptop was a little bit lighter.I have always owned Dell computers and usually buy them directly from Dell, but this was a much better deal through Amazon.
